Really, RK, you might want to try a long, light driver, though I expect you probably have tried one. Believe it was Dean Symonds who was having some success working with a superlight driver...using a head about 180 grams, 47 gram shaft and 35 gram grip, or something like that. Dean, was that you? And, what was the final verdict?

Yeah, I've had enough education in that "being sick" stuff. My new kidney is working great...no more blood pressure medicine and blood test panel all normal. But, the anti-rejection drugs are a bitch now. (Guess you know more about nasty, nervous-system drugs than I do.) The Prednisone has affected my lower spinal cord and nervous system in legs...may never get my "hiking" legs back enough to do 18 holes. Recently bought a Bag Boy Express push cart to force me to try and last week did my first nine holes walking since the transplant last November. Was barely alive when I got to the ninth (slight exaggeration)...aches in the ankles, knees and dead legs...but I only "cheated" and rode twice, once from my drive to my third shot on a steep uphill par 5, and once on a par three to speed up play. Had a 38 on the back side, though, so wasn't as exhausted as I felt. Am hoping to try walking nine about once a week when it cools down this fall. Distance with my driver is beginning to come back, too...had a couple of tee shots to 250 in the last couple of weeks, but most are about 225-230. Also had three 76s and a 77 in the last month...mixed in with all the 80-85s. Making a 2 handicap again is going to be next to impossible, but it sure is nice just to be out there.

What the hell, when I get a little depressed, I just make me a new set of irons, or try a new driver... :-) Made me a set of Low Pro's Pro Perimeter irons (very nice heads for $6.95) with Hireko Powerflex FW-501 filament wound shafts ($6.30) and Soft Tread grips ($1, like Softees) yesterday. Those shafts seem to be very good for the money...a spread on the NBPs of all 9 shafts of only .023" deflection (less than 5 cpm) on my NF2, and only spines worth noting were .013", .015" and .016" (just under to just over about 3 cpm). All the other shafts had spines less than .006" and were not even worth aligning. Used an NBP-COG alignment, anyway...just to see what that felt like. Really figured my weights closely, for a change, just to see if I could still get within 1 point swingweight . Haven't done that in a long time (under 2 points is usually good enough for old guys), but got within 6/10ths of a point across the set. Shafts were matched on my NF2 to .446" baseline NBP deflection (3-iron shaft) to +/- .002" on a 3/8" slope. Have used the shafts on two other sets for senior friends and they seem to play as well as my old $14 Apache PM-30+ shafts, which were same weight at about 82 grams. Good therapy. Feel better today and try them tomorrow. :-)

Keep your spirits up, RK. We're all hoping you feel better tomorrow, too. And, thanks again to all you STers for your support last year. As TFlan recently noted, it meant a lot more to me than I would have imagined.

Hey Bernie, how much would I get with my new 73mph swing speed, that's the swing I now get But only after I'm warmed up for a few holes.   Being sick sure is a bitch.

George,

Ha! That's "back-up driver" stuff is amazing, isn't it? I've done three
customer-ordered, back-up drivers for my S450/Pure Energy-A/Winn combos.
Never did back-ups for any other drivers, either. I'm using a 58 gram,
Graman TP440-A for some of my 47" versions. Another shaft that seems to work
OK for 47" clubs is the 54 gram, Rapport Recoil 50 R.

I've also been trying the Integra Pentium X, which specs at 195 grams, for
long drivers. Plays pretty long, but it doesn't seem to have the same
"trampoline feel" that I get out of the S450 with my 90 mph swing speed.
