Although setting the assembled club in the playing position is the recommended method for drying, it can also change the lie angle slightly if there is some play between the shaft and the inside of the hosel. Therefore, I cure my clubs with the shaft set straight up. I built a drying rack that clamps the irons at the hosel and sets the shaft up vertical. Thus assuring that I'm starting out with the intended lie angle before checking dynamic lie with the customer hitting the completed clubs. For drivers, I use a drill press vise and jaw pads to clamp the heads so that the shaft sets straight up. I'll also enlist my shop vise for this when I'm building more that one driver at a time. I should note that I'm not a production shop with a store front where this method could slow things down.

Best,

Is there a general consensus as to setting a club on the head or butt while curing?
If so why?
I've always cured with the club in a butt down position (and had no problems),but read somewhere to set the club in playing position.
