There is no need to "prep" a ferrule BUT you should rough up the shaft at least half of the distance between the top of the hosel and the top of the ferrule, swab hosel and shaft tip with acetone on Q-tip (paper stick only). Apply a light coating of epoxy to the shaft tip and press the ferrule on with the clubhead, remove head apply epoxy to the shaft and a light coating to the inside of the hosel, "twist" on clubhead and wipe off "squeeze out" epoxy with acetone on a paper towel patch. Set club for curing.  Heads won't come off and ferrules won't "creep".
