Richard's note reminded
me of another option I've used. I've used the solid door method for table
tops, as well as the bathroom vanity/kitchen cabinet, but for applications where
I don't need a lot of strength or weight, I've used lengths of postform counter
tops. The big box stores like Home Depot and Lowes carry them in lengths
up to about 12 feet. I use them to make club assembly
tables. The "Formica" (I think "plastic laminate" is the generic term)
finish makes for easy cleanup. You can get grommets for cable pass thru
holes and it looks real professional.
