Option shift / 8 won't work on mine (sys 8.6). Option key is the alt key (alt in small letters on the extended keyboard). Try the zero key on top of the letter keys, not on the number keypad.
Haven't tried it on OS X.

Been years since a virus has caused me a problem on them. It is 22º (alt 0) here now.

Actually I have 2, and a PC I don't trust it so I seldom use it. Also get to delete all those virus warnings cause they don't affect me.
