I believe in the beginning graphite fiber was made from Rayon a <http://www.psrc.usm.edu/macrog/cell.htm>Cellulose based fiber and Im sure for some application its stilled used. I believe Mitsubishi Rayon started as a joint venture with Dupont and now the polymer of choice is polyacrylonitrile. (Also a development of DuPont)

Thanks, Don.
I know you're the expert on this. And I do recognize polyacrylonitrile as the precursor fiber that Mitsubishi Rayon had cited as their current choice.

As for the joint venture with DuPont, their company history supports that. DuPont-MRC Co, Ltd was established in 1986.

Thanks again,
