Sorry, Pat...I've slept too many times since I worked on that set.  I can't remember anything about the sleeve.  All I remember is the screwy taper and how hard it was to get the head reseated.  The 7I that my guy lost was one that I had reseated for him...he never lets me forget about the head flying off and into the pond.  What makes it worse is he's my best friend and I was playing with him that day and watched him do it.

Royce,
The clubs are not his, he'd borrowed them from a friend and he just wanted to get them repaired. I explained to him that there is a good chance that I would not find him a replacement 4I but I would try to repair the 3I. Is it possible to pull the sleeve off the 4I shaft? It looks plastic but I believe it to be aluminum. Does this sound right?

I've done several repairs for one of my clients...same things you are seeing.  It's been a while, but IIRC, I didn't do anything about the ferrule.  The problem with these clubs and shafts is that the taper angle puts a whole lot more stress on the epoxy.  It's a really weak joint.  My customer also lost his 7I head in a pond, and we eventually got Golfsmith to give us a replacement (remember that Golfsmith bought Lynx and all their inventory).  It's been a couple of years and I would expect that their supply of spares is now depleted...

My guess is that your best bet is to convince the customer to scrap the Lynx clubs and let you build him/her a new set.  That's what I eventually did, and made the customer a whole lot more happy with the new set.

Has anyone done any repairs on the Lynx Black Cat irons w/ the Dynamic Flare tip shafts? A customer has brought in a 3I to reinstall the head back onto the shaft, and the 4I shaft without the head, (it has flew off and into the pond in front of him). Questions I have are 1- the 4I shaft has a tapered ferrule on the tip of the shaft and the 3I shafts does not. Do I need to pull that ferrule (or sleeve) off the 4I shaft to use to reinstall the 3I head or could I somehow shim the tip of the 3I shaft to make the head fit snug? The taper measurements are .365" up to .423".  2- Does anyone have or know where I could get a replacement 4I L/H head or if I need to make him a new 4I,something similar to match his set?   I have called the club scouter and club finder recourses, with no luck. As always, TIA. For those who have responded to some of my questions in the past, I apologize if I never get back to you with a thank you, as my life requires more than 24 hrs. in a day.
