Hi Folks,
In response to a few comments about the show. I
tought the talks were the best ever. Unfortunately only Tom Wishon had a hand
out. There was so much information given that it's hard to sit back a few days
later as come up with exactly all that went on.
Chuck Silco made a comment in a recent post that
only the Club Scout can do zone profiling. I don't know where he got that
impression. I think there might be a problem with the old Brunswick unit and the
new Golfworks model but other than that the rest would work if the right
clamping blocks were used.
The reason I'm posting this on both Shoptalk and Spinetalk
is that I'm hoping to reach some of those people that visited my both and my
have come away with a wrong impression regarding the dual cylinder pneumatic
clamp I was showing down there. It is designed to twang in the vertical plane as
all my analyzers are. The normal CS unit works fine in both planes. I sold a
couple of pneumatic clamps to clubmakers that intented to use it with a Digi
Flex analyzer. Of courese the DF must be used in the horizontal plane. I didn't
know their intended use and probably would have thought the clamp would have
worked fine in the horizontal plane in any case. I got a call yesterday from one
of the fellows and he has run into a problem which I didn't fore see. The
clamp base is an aluminum I beam. It is extremely stiff in the vertical plane.
Unfortunately it's not so stiff in the horizontal plane. Dare I say its spine
and neutral planes are drastically different.? The center web is basically a 5"
piece of 1/4" aluminum. When he twanged horizontally he lost quite few cycles
due to the side wobble of the base. We discussed ways to beefing it up which may
or may not work. Unfortunately I'm in Tucson right now away from my shop so I
can't do any experimenting.
When I get back I'll put together a unit that is
specifially designed for horizontal twanging. On paper it looks pretty easy. So
any of you who talked to me at the show about a clamp for their DF unit (and
there were a few) stayed tuned. I should know more in about two
weeks.
Regards,
John Kaufman
