Ron,

All the Apache PM-30 iron sets which I've used (two for me and a couple for others) have felt stiffer and played a little stiff. But, my two sets were the original PM-30i which may have been modified some since 1997. Then, I was a solid R with most shafts, so started with a raw 283 cpm PM-30i shaft, R-1 on their fitting chart. It felt like it had no flex in it at all and I did not get the distance I expected. Dropped down to a raw 275 cpm set, their A-2, and the shafts felt much better. Distance improved a full club. Played with those clubs for 6 years (still have them for emergencies) and had some of the best rounds of my life with them.

Also tried a PM-30 wood shaft or two at that time and they also felt too rigid for me. My son is using a more recent MCC Orange Crush S on his driver and it does not feel as stiff to me as the PM-30s.

Subject: ShopTalk: Apache PM30 shafts

I recently picked up a full set of new PM30-R shafts for the princely sum of  $30.  I haven't used these shafts before and, before I start trimming them, I want to confirm something I remember from a discussion a few years back.  Someone in this august group of contributors felt strongly that Apache shafts played stiffer that their frequency indicated.  I normally trim to manufacturer's specs (at least as a starting point) but I may want to modify this if the shafts play stiffer than it appears on my Club Scout.  Do I need to take this into account before trimming?
