I ran across this and thought the people in these groups would be interested. It deals primarily with a Canadian's workshop in Tokyo. He has a liquor store and the shop ("The Dungeon") is in the basement.

The ONLY access to the shop is through a 4-foot square hatch in the floor of the building's parking area.

Warning - part of the charm is that this guy takes pictures of everything! He seems to spend WAY more time on making things for the shop than for his house, but there is nothing wrong with that :-)

Some things that were interesting: pictures of a Japanese "Home Depot like" store that carried everything from MANY pulleys to exquisite log flitches; a "noodle cooling" trough for a Japanese BBQ; lowering logs and huge machines down the hatch; and many innovative solutions to numerous problems he faced.

Enjoy - http://ablett.jp/workshop/index.htm
