You might have success with OpenWRT if you configure your Netgear ADSL 
modem/router as a modem only and purchase a second device for running 
OpenWRT behind the modem. It might not be the cleanest solution, but 
there are so many cheap devices that are fully supported in OpenWRT that 
it hardly is worth the effort to be a "trailblazer" with your DG834G.
