My recent difficulty making a Shorewall-4.0.4 firewall script run on LEAF Bering-uClibc 3.0.2 and its Linux-2.4.33 kernel has got me looking for another distribution. The runs-in-ramdisk style is great because an install footprint of under 4 MB is easy to backup and manage copies; but I am mostly concerned with a secure-by-default design without core features unwanted in a firewall.
I hope that I have sufficient justification to ask this list: what distribution can you recommend as a logical successor to Bering-uClibc, with a 2.6 kernel and current shorewall support? -- John K.
