I see discussion of JSON, XML, and I feel I must also suggest Sumerian Cuneiform. Cuneiform is exceedingly compact and not vulnerable to inadvertent or erroneous changes: http://salenacastro7.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/cuneiform.jpg That says: "mark all outgoing traffic with diffserv to make it go fast on teh Internet".
