Hi. Ubuntu user, I've been running around trying to nail down which of the
photomanager applications can suit my needs, between f-spot and digikam.
Checking out shotwell now, as it's moving to standard in 10.10 "Maverick"
release. Looks good.

Main feature requests that I've found has (too late) been added in F-spot is
the much-needed XCF support, as well as decent versioning system for images,
and file-folder monitoring. I would like to know if these exist in
shotwell, or if plans to do so are in near-future.

1. XCF support
XCF is the native GIMP image editor image format, necessary for users who
rely heavily on this standard linux application.
i . Make sure that shotwell is able to index and view XCF files.
ii. Make an edit in gimp, export as JPEG/PNG and have this edit added to
shotwell
iii. Open in GIMP for an edit, and save as XCF, and have this edit added to
shotwell.

2. Versioning
F-spot has a great versioning system, and digikam has moved in this
direction as well. Multiple versions of one image can be "stacked" on top
of the original, and user can select between versions, as well as designate
new images as versions of another.
i. Does versioning exist in shotwell?
ii. Can other files be added and linked as a version of the same image?

3. Filesystem folder monitoring
A big feature request, and I think people would really agree with me here
after experiencing it -
Monitoring of folders, aka "Watching folders for new images".
use case: I add an image to a folder designated as a "watched folder" in
shotwell, and shotwell automatically recognizes and imports this image on
next startup. HUGELY important if you're going to be shifting around your
image files in any other way, which is one of my biggest gripes with
F-Spot.
i. Does it exist for shotwell?
ii. Are there any plans for adding this in the future?

Thanks!
