I don't know if it's been discussed before, but I would find it useful if I could have shotwell place imported video files in a video folder tree, and images in a photos folder tree. Because videos are often much larger than photos, separating them into different folders can be useful when backing the files up (e.g. one folder can be backed up on some large storage device, and another perhaps via a cloud-based storage).
