On Friday we fixed the packaging problem with libgexiv2 and Shotwell.
You shouldn't have to purge the PPA. I would recommend sudo apt-get -f
install and removing the old packages and then adding them again.

For future reference, if you want to remove a ppa then install
ppa-purge and
sudo ppa-purge ppa:yorba/ppa
should have taken you back to where you started.
