I'm seeing this too, but i haven't found the cause till now. And i will be 
away for the weekend.

Resume is working, but the xserver doesn't show an image. You can still 
connect to the device over SSH and see that X is running. But if you kill Xorg 
the whole userland freezes.
There is nothing shown in the logs...

Killing Xorg before a suspend-resume cycle works fine. And manually suspend is 
working too, as you've recognized.
