Usually it's quite easy to upgrade libraries/apps in OE, but lot of apps don't have some maintainer and if there is nobody in need of newer one, it stays older. > failing that, what are the reasons for choosing whatever is the base > OS (is it Angstrom still) as a core for shr? were there any specific > reasons which prohibited a more modern distro? There is no such thing as base OS = Angstrom. OE provides metadata for all sorts of apps/libs and distro maintainers picks/adds whatever we need. But yes we're pretty close to Angstrom with our needs (mostly because Angstrom is one of best maintained distros in OE). If you need newer gphoto + deps, try to check how bitbake recipe in OE looks (sometimes recipe for newer version is just cp and checksum update) and send us a git patch: http://wiki.shr-project.org/trac/wiki/Howto%20get%20my%20application%20in%20the%20SHR%20feed Or try to motivate one of SHR/OE maintainer to need newer gphoto (ie show your code :)). (It's much harder to test something I'm not interested in or/and using it).
