I should also add that the other way to deal with symmetric NATs is to 
enable UPnP on them. I'm not sure about the state of UPnP on Linux - 
at some point, I plan to write a small UPnP server (in Python) which will
have hooks to call out to the relevant programs to actually do the port
forwarding...
