Precedence: bulk A REPORT FROM DILI >From Dr Vacy Vlazna ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) I left Dili yesterday. There is, in Liquica a humanitarian crisis of massive proportions. The situation is critical. Thousands of refugees, many who have not eaten for weeks have been herded into a vast camp, and without embellishment, is the same as the Kosovan, Bosnian and Nazi camps. We have heard that people are picked at random at night and taken away. No humanitarian relief has been permitted into the area. Caritas was closed yesterday because four militia came to the office and threatened staff. There is relief food stored there. CARE is closed and the ICRC was not evident. So, in fact there appear no NGOs in operation. Drs Kevin Baker and Dan Murphy, and two French Doctors have been trying for over a week to get permission to enter the area. There is great concern for the health of the refugees as there is no sanitation, little food and we expect there to be wounded people also. We are concerned there may be similar camps in Suai, Ermera, Bobonaro and other places as the roads have been blocked to them for 2 weeks at least. This information will be confirmed on Australian Channel 9 news tonight. ---------- SiaR WEBSITE: http://apchr.murdoch.edu.au/minihub/siarlist/maillist.html
