Precedence: bulk CNRT Timor-Leste ---xanana gusm�o--- Fellow Countrymen, We have done all we could for violence not to be used as a political means to defend our positions in a process through which the people will democratically choose their future. We are deeply saddened to verify that our own Timorese brothers continue to resort to terror, intimidation, and assassination to campaign. We all know that TNI, the Police, the Military intelligence and Wiranto are behind this violence. We speak of Peace, they speak of war; we extend an invitation to reconcile, they respond with violence. I appeal to the entire population, particularly to the youth, to remain at home and to refrain from acting in a way which could provoke further bloodshed. I order FALINTIL to remain in their cantonment sites and I prohibit any action which could put in jeopardy the whole political process led by the CNRT. I appeal to the UN Security Council for an immediate deployment for an immediate deployment of a Peace Enforcement Force in East Timor given that Indonesia has violated from day one the 5 May agreement and is clearly demonstrating that not only does it not want Peace in East Timor, but it is intent on pursuing a strategy of instability and chaos in the territory. Finally, I appeal for dialogue amongst all Timorese to be maintained in the presence of the international community. I must remind the people of East Timor that the eyes of the international community are focussed on us. We must prove our love of peace. The international community will be behind us after the ballot to assist us in the building of peace, and of our nation.
