As was reported on Slashdot recently, dyn.ml.org is down for the
forseeable future. i think the short version of the story is that
they had some kind of database malfunction, or possibly hardware /
bandwidth problems, and no one has fixed the problem. Ml.org put out
a call for donations. This situation has sucks in general, because I
had just started to publicize my dyn.ml.org based site. Oh well...
what can I do? I don't have any hardware or money to donate.
There *are* a few other free DNS services out there. The first one
that comes to mind is ddns.org. I applied for an account there over a
week ago and haven't heard back. I imagine they are completely
swamped now that dyn.ml.org is down and they may suffer the same fate
(overload?) as dyn.ml.org. still, it's the only realistic alternative
that I know of right now (short of registering your own domain with
internic and paying someone to dynamically bind your name.)
good luck,
Preston
