You shouldn't need to do anything manually other than copying your
zImage to /boot/vmlinuz-xxx

For module stuff, you do "make modules" and "make modules_install" or
something to that effect.  Check out modules.txtin your
src/linux/modules directory.  I always get confused on the case of
module, whether it's singular or plural, but you should be able to find
it pretty easily.
