Yes. If you really value the extra bandwidth in your home, chuck out the e
extra 20 bucks and get 3com. They rock in a major way. And no matter WHAT 
anyone says .... you DO get what you pay for. The dlink/ne2000/etc generic
cards do NOT get half as good of bandwidth as the higher quality (3com,
netgear, intel, etc)

Yes, what diald does is listens to the ppp interface. When it sees a packet
come across the network and it needs to go to the outside world, it starts
the ppp connection. Once the ppp connection is established, it will watch
it until it is idle for a certain amount of time. It will then drop the 
connection and wait for another packet to come across the wire. It's quite
slick, and if you don't mind the 20 second wait for the modem to dial up,
it's fine.
