Your /etc/resolv.conf should look like that, sort of.. try:

search     utexas.edu
nameserver 128.83.185.40
nameserver 128.83.185.41

> IP:128.83.185.41
> Name:utexAas.edu

/etc/hosts.. maybe like this
127.0.0.1       YourHostNameB        localhost

Hmm not sure what this is refering to.

I don't have a gateway set up.. I think, so who knows?

Turn on more debugging in pppd by editing /etc/ppp/options and adding more
debug lines.  Then check what it tells you in /var/log/ppp.log
