I've been trying to set up PLIP, because I don't wanna buy two more net cards, and it'd be great to get these three OLD pc's sitting on my floor to talk to each other :) Anyway, when I try to load the module "insmod plip" or "modprobe plip" it complains about the device being in use or already open. With "lsmod" I noticed a module "paraport", and two supporting modules "paraport_probe" and "paraport_pc". I assume these are Parallel port drivers for the PC style parallel port ?(I am on a PC) If I rmmod these three, or any combination of them, and then try to "modprobe plip" it complains about different paraport functions "can't find paraport_thisfunction". I've looked in /proc/devices and there's no listing for any lp devices so I'm clear there. I Deleted the one entry for a printer through the control panel for RH6, but still no luck. Is there anywhere else I can/should look for something still using the parallel port? Any other ideas? I... I have a modem in each box, is there a method for using directly connected modems to network two systems? I'm not looking for a fast connection, at least not at this point.
