Well,
after racking my poor tired old head for days, I finally retraced my
path to where I learned this in the first place:

in the "miscellaneous" section. The originating modem sends ATX3DT and the
answering modem sends ATA.
I remember that it worked for my NTi386-Mac link, but I can't get it to
fly now. It may be that one end of the link is an internal laptop modem
that's not fully AT compatible. So, yeah, Gene, if you were that
motivated, I'd be curious as to your results.
