I just subscribed to this list -- because I have an important question:

How did you get the mtx patches for quantum DLT changers per this e-mail
that was posted last month? Also, what got fixed in GNU Tar? Please help
me out here. I need it. I really would like to get this Quantum DLT to work
under Linux. Thanks so much for everyone's time in reading this.

I don't know if anyone else has answered your question yet, but we set
up a pretty robust DLT-based backup system at Sony for movie
production. We used a Quantum 14-tape changer, and it worked just
fine with Linux.

We could never get Amanda to work with our system, partly because
Amanda didn't work with Linux software RAID.
So we used GNU tar (uncovering a bug or two in its incremental backup
process along the way) and Leonard Zubkoff's mtx (with patches for the
Quantum changer which I don't think have been incorporated yet into the
main distribution).

With that setup we successfully backed up 200 GB a week (incrementals
daily and full backups on the weekends).

Michael
