If you have a shell account on a utexas.edu machine you could probably use
ssh port forwarding to do this. something like
'ssh -f -L 1025:newshost.cc.utexas.edu:119 cs.utexas.edu sleep 100'
assuming cs.utexas.edu is the machine where you have a shell account. You
might also need to add -l username if you have a different username on
your home machine. You could also set up ssh-agent and ssh-add so you only
have to enter a password once per session. The sleep command needs to be
long enough to make a connection to the newsserver. Then you can you can
point your newsreader to localhost:1025
I have heard that newshost.cc.utexas.edu will soon be allowing access with
username/password to people connecting from outside UT. Perhaps
cs.utexas.edu already has this feature? You might want to check with the
news administrator and find out.
