I read the manual, vmnet1 is used to do host-only network interface, it
has a dhcp server running on this interface..

well, I always have 2.2.12 when I start vmware, and I have it re-compile
whatever it need..so that's not a problem..I am using dhcp on the guest
machine, with "bridged" implementation. so the guest machine should get
an IP from my real network dhcp server.. however, when I issue
"route print" under that guest machine, I got

169.254.77.74 255.255.255.255 .......

this looks like the guest machine's IP..which changes sometimes on the
last 2 set of number. not sure where in the world the 169.254 comes from..
