I've recently transferred my newly-registered domain over to
granitecanyon for primary and secondary DNS, but I'm having issues
with them. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm being too impatient, if I'm
not doing something right, etc.
I registered the domain last May, and my initial setup with
granitecanyon worked. I was able to point the domain at an IP and it
resolved nicely after a day or two. I've recently attempted to point
the name at another IP, and since then it hasn't resolved.
I made the changes last Friday and agreed to the TOS on Saturday,
receiving confirmation later that day. Since then I've been waiting
patiently for my domain name (nolansown.com) to resolve, but it hasn't
yet. I understand that domain names need to propagate, but I thought
that either temporarily setting my primary DNS in resolv.conf to
ns1.granitecanyon.com's IP or running 'nslookup nolansown.com
ns1.granitecanyon.com' would at least reveal the new domain's IP, but
they haven't. In addition, the nslookup output on NS1 is odd; it isn't
like any other nslookups which I've done. And their secondary
nameserver, ns2.granitecanyon.com, can't even resolve the name. I
thought that maybe the nameservers needed to be reloaded, but
according to http://www.granitecanyon.com/status.shtml, this was done
yesterday.
I've tried to figure out how to obtain support from granitecanyon, but
the only working means which I've found is the email address which
they claim to rarely answer; I can't seem to connect to their NNTP
server. So, I was hoping that someone here might know what's up? Would
temporarily setting my nameserver to ns1.granitecanyon.com's IP in
resolv.conf, or running the above nslookup command, be able to tell me
if my zone configuration is correct? I've never registered and configured a
"real" domain name; is there something which I may be missing? (And
yes, my nameservers are set to granitecanyon. :) Finally, I realize
that granitecanyon is providing a free service, but I've spoken to
someone else who claimed that their website and servers are slow. Is
there anyone else who freely provides similar services?
Thanks.
