This is really strange. I have Slackware 7 on my laptop, and every time I boot, something makes /usr/local non-world readable. I can't find anything in rc.d that could be doing this. The version is Bigslack, which is designed to be run from a directory on a FAT partition, coexisting with Win98. Maybe that messes it up? I'm baffled.
