Matthias,
I do have libserialport-dev installed.
However, having been working with copilot AI to get this working for
some time, I am beginning to suspect copilot AI is telling me nonsense.
Remember that I am totally blind.
The AI told me that to enable USB connectivity, I need to turn on the
meter, and then press the right-most of the four soft buttons below the
display. When I do this I get a double beep.
Can somebody with eyes and a HID version of the UT612 tell me if this is
correct please? In fact I am not even sure this is a HID version, and it
might still use the cp210x driver to get /dev/ttyUSB0.

uni-t-ut612 driver appears to expect a serial port (/dev/ttyUSB*).
Because I had similar expierience: serial drivers need for build the
libserialport-dev
installed, please check.
