I'm in the process of finalising my visa now (thankfully I got it). I can give a big thumbs up to Geoff's article, it's spot on.
The only additional detail I would like to add is know your DS-160 *inside* and *out*. I found the interview process can be very, very involving and they'll drill you on any irregularities on the form.
