I think I’ve been getting used to the idea of just letting things pass me by. I
like the stream analogy because it does make it seem like anytime I reach in I
can grab something fresh and wonderful, but it does still leave a little bit of
anxiety that it will somehow run out someday.

The needles metaphor also has me wondering whether I should be looking for more
hay! Needles can be quite dense and get overwhelming, but maybe getting through
some hay will have a sense of movement without the pressure of everything I
read having to be life changing.

Cheerio,

My main system is, life is too short, if i'm not engaged, move on. with tabs,
every so often i review and close--if I can't remember why it's open, and
honestly these days if it's a longread that doesn't need to be a longread i.e.
90% of longreads :D

"Too many needles" is a brilliantly evocative phrase that alludes to how one's
TBR pile keeps monotonically increasing.

How do you cope?

I’m finding some relief in having turned my bucket into a funnel. Books in my
possession at the sharp end, books on my buy later list and wish list further
up the funnel. Delaying acquisition helps filter out a large number. Permitting
myself to abandon books mid-read has also been liberating.
