Some of you know that the list has been down for nearly 3 months now.
So: fingers crossed. Can you hear me?
So that's why I haven't seen anything of late.
It's been hard to tell since I've been aboard a cruise ship since
October, circumnavigating Africa (which turned out to be a lot less
pleasant and interesting than I had hoped), and my routine has been
disrupted as a consequence.
Others on this thread have regretted the decline of email, but I spend
several hours a day dealing with it. Yes, much is spam, but my filters
continue to improve so the actual percentage I have to deal with is
going down.
The non-profit I run isn't willing to find even a temporary replacement
for me, so I've been running the organization long-distance, including
Zoom Board meetings each month (at increasingly inconvenient hours as I
traveled east).
We do have a new webmaster who has taken over our main web site and
membership renewals, leaving me to manage the online store and other
sites. That's been a big relief, but signally the only one.
Others points in this thread have been about burnout. One would think
that a leisure cruise would be an antidote to that, but not so. Life
becomes smaller as a cruise passenger, not larger. I do no cooking, no
cleaning, read only what's online, and am missing my usual gang of
friends and activities.
On our previous cruise, my wife dislocated her left shoulder, then
strained her right shoulder as she overcompensated. As we only had four
weeks between cruises (one of which was interrupted by a hurricane) and
thus couldn't get treatment, she's now in a world of hurt that limits
her ability to sleep. I've not yet convinced her to cancel our next
cruise so she can get surgery six months sooner.
Add the loss of intelligent conversation that's silklist's hallmark
(also bad puns), and it's been difficult, notwithstanding that most of
my troubles are "first world problems".
Glad to know we're all back together! Now to see if I can get myself
back together after returning home in another week.
Cheers,
/ Bruce /
