I don't think we are disagreeing? Magic Lantern is an open source alternative firmware for older Canon dSLR's. There's no such equivalent for newer mirrorless cameras from Canon (or any other manufacturer for that matter) and the reasons for that (IMO) are several - newer firmware is more locked down, the firmware updates continue to add enough features to keep folks happy and not looking for alternatives, folks who still use dedicated cameras (like yourself) are not interested in potentially bricking their cameras,  the hacker community has moved on etc.
