One should be held responsible of ones *actions* not ones *ideas*.

+1!!!

Unf. too many people in this increasingly insane world seem to have forgotten this basic tenet of enlightened civilization. Whether it's Americans justifying all sorts of intrusive, egregious pre-emptive measures out of 911-induced post-traumatic stress disorder and hysteria, or this sort of European uber-knee jerk political correctness, the trend is towards holding people responsible for not only what they do, but also what they say and think. And, most worryingly, the trend includes holding people responsible for what *other people* think they've said or thought! (Note that I'm not defending the holocaust denier's opinion, here, merely *his right to have it and express it.*)

IMHO, much of it grounds out in religion. Many flavors of Christianity hold it true that a sin committed in thought only is just as sinful. :-/
