Douglas Adams had a way of not so much destroying the English language,
as staying well within the bounds of it, all the while blowing bits and
chunks out of the superstructure, leaving the basic edifice standing,
but nonetheless ready to topple at the slightest breeze.

I love Douglas Adams, but one would have to note that PGW was there earlier, and did it better. The "eddies in the spacetime continuum" bit between Dent and Ford Prefect could have come straight out of a somewhat deranged Wooster's mouth.
