now, even if one were to read this as a polemical statement, what puzzles me is the question of subjecthood and volition.
Who is this 'nation' subject? And is 'it' really willing to liquidate itself or is it more likely that the various supranational entities that you mention are wiling to co-opt entities who claim representational status for certain nation states?

Leaving aside for the moment the issue of "Why would anyone want to
keep alive the idea of the nation state", it would seem to be
inarguable that there *do* exist various parties who *do* want to do
precisely this.
In this context, Radhika's comment makes sense, to me at least.
