Foucault going ecstatic over the Iranian revolution? wasn't there a book released recently on his reports from Iran? Foucault however was never of the official (partisan) left...

nishant, any comments?

though i have heard that some of the new CPM initiated madrassa experiments have something of note..a renewed interest in Urdu for starters...

I can imagine, but this isn't confined to the religious factions alone. Even the left, the CPM in this case, has tied itself up into such knots that it finds itself supporting mediaeval mullahs in Iran. Obviously they don't have a sense of humour.

I suspect that only the cynical can retain their mental balance, to judge by the essay posted by Jace.

Oh absolutely IG. But I was recently part of an absolutely hilarious (to me) discussion on another board where real "hindus" tied themselves up in knots because it can be easily shown that their "ideals" and their "leaders" are as secular as anyone can get as those leaders go about their business of making money - because criminal behaviour is highly secular despite an outward attempt to protray one side as "honest hindus" and the other as followers of a "criminal ideology"
