Javed Tapia, president of Red Hat Indian Subcontinent, has put in his
papers announcing his departure from the vanguard open source vendor?s
India operations. He, however, would continue to be one of the
directors.
"June 9 was the last day ...," sources told CRN even as the Linux
vendor is yet to make a formal announcement to this effect.
An erstwhile director and CEO of Red Hat India, Tapia later became
president of Red Hat Indian Subcontinent and has been playing key role
in bringing the open source technology to India and to expand its
base.
"There is no issue or heart burning behind the resignation," the
source clarified stating that Red Hat India would continue to enlist
Tapia's contribution and therefore, he will continue to hold the
position as one of the directors for Red Hat India.
Master in Business Administration from the Duke University, USA, he is
credited for being an entrepreneur who has jointly promoted Red Hat
India along with Red Hat Inc since 2001. Red Hat India started off as
a joint venture between Tapia, who held 40% of the share while the
rest 60% remained with Red Hat, USA.
In December 2005, Red Hat Inc decided to convert the India entity into
a 100% subsidiary and bought over 40% share from Tapia.
Tapia, who had floated Clover Technologies, would go back to
concentrate on his first company, sources said.
In the recent times, Tapia's remark on Microsoft founder Bill Gates'
India visit had created waves when he had said, "Gates' visit comes at
a time when Microsoft's domination is very much being eroded. This
time, we (Red Hat) have a lot of success stories to show him."
