Evolution is about survival of a population, not an individual.

The same arguments apply to populations. Life expectancy, infant
survival rates, etc. are much lower in countries with poor health
care than in countries with good health care. Quality of life and
per capita wealth (which translate to better survival options) are
higher in countries with a higher level of economic freedom.

Cultures are composed of individuals. What's good for individuals
is also good for entire cultures. There's no antagonism between
the two.
