Of-course, the Bible is _meant_ to be interpreted literally, being
the word of "God".
It says so in the Bible itself:
"But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a
matter of one's own interpretation, for no
prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the
Holy Spirit spoke from
God." (NAS, 2nd Peter 1:20-21)
Those who don't interpret it literally are guilty of ignoring His
words, and will surely suffer eternal
damnation.
The fact that it is not interpreted literally by many so-called
Christians has little to do with its internal
flexibility (which is nonexistent), and a lot to do with the fact
that it is pure drivel that is as incompatible
with known _facts_ about reality as is the Egyptian book of the dead,
or any other tome of "knowledge"
put together by benighted prehistoric savages.
