Do you prefer it over Debian?
If so, why?
Having started using Debian 10 years ago and having been a Debian
developer for 4-5 of those years, I am quite heavily invested in the
Debian family. However, I moved to Ubuntu a year ago and am loving it
for the following reasons:
1. Faster release cycle. In 10 years I have only seen Debian make 3-4
stable major releases. Ubuntu shoots for one every 6 months. I know I
could be running testing or backports or unstable on Debian. But it is
a huge PITA.
2. Compatability (to a large extent) with Debian packages. I am, for
the most part, able to install a package from Debian testing or
unstable on my Ubuntu box with no problems.
3. Very nice pre-compiled kernels. To get suspend to RAM to work on my
Debian kernel I had to endure so much pain. My Dapper kernel worked
almost out of the box (I needed to edit menu.lst to add an option)
4. Very good auto detection of hardware. Both onboard and usb audio
worked beautifully for me. Mounting of iPods and such have also been a
breeze with Ubuntu.
