Jace: you hit the nail on its head...

I was an academic for 11 years before joining the corporate world. Here I led a team of 25 with 3 other co-leads (being naive I already did not understand this but...). Divided into 4 groups we were set a task split equally. We had a 16 day deadline. I finished mine on day 10, co-lead-2 and 3 finished their's on day 12. Co-lead 4 was halfway on day 14. So I stepped and divided his work four ways again and we finished the job the next day ahead of schedule. This was a start-up and the project was for our first client. Based on this we were given 3 larger ones for which we had to hire. Incidentally I also designed the process to get the project done.
Here's the thing: Co-lead 4 got promoted to head the new larger 70-member team.

I left and joined a VC firm (Muhahahaha - evil laugh) that funds start-ups but thankfully not like the one above.

But on a lighter note, Jace, I couldn't help smiling when I got through your mail, thinking 'begone incompatibilists, free will is here'. Jeez man, your pissed off.
Adit.
