I think this holds good even for any sort of consultancy.....

funny thing, the word of mouth trust element seems risky at first, but
is actually to your own benefit....you can get up and leave if you
dont like something.  the other side of the coin, is most people dont
want to get up and leave, they are happy with status quo....(contract
== mental job security....)
