As of 9 pm EST there are no known surprises. Some Democrats have done well esp in Pennsylvania and Indiana.
Senator Allen of Virginia (of Macaca fame---he called a desi by that name)....that race is still neck-to-neck at this point.
Hilary is back; Herb Kohl of Wisconsin is back and so are a bunch of other people.
Traditionally, the President's party has always done well in mid-term elections...it is called riding on the coat tails effect. However, in the last few years there has been a kind of tectonic shift in the voting pattern. The South, which was traditionally Democratic has turned Republican. Plus, there is the Latino vote bank to be factored in. These two factors alone could color the outcome of this election.
In another couple of hours we should get a better idea of where this is headed...I guess we will know who gets to control
the congress a bit later in the day.

I am waiting for Jon Stewart's "Midterm Midtacular". On a serious note,
this election is all about Bush and his follies. I am waiting to see how
the American populace reward/punish him. At present his popularity is on
an all time low, hovering around 31%.
