Which in turn reminds me of the two brothers from one of PG Wodehouse's books, with the surname Major... the elder (the character in the story) was a South African gold prospector and the younger (mentioned in passing) was in the Army. So the story had the Miner Major, while the Minor Major was a Major in the army (or some such). Binand
