I have been told that (short of an unrestricted take-off at a US Naval Air Station) there is nothing that quite compares to the single-minded directness of a Lufthansa crew determined to be, if not exactly airborne, at least no longer touching the runway, in the seconds before the tower and the rest of the airport are due to join an Italian general strike.
